Silver Bullets
The
name of this team was not inspired by any fascination with werewolves,
vampires or Stephen King horror flicks, but rather the spectre of
Gordo, our once great but now fallen leader.
It is in Gordo's Silver Bullet that we find ourselves
implored to never take soft options, either on the playing field
or after the game and to back ourselves in, time and time again.
This was superbly (and famously) demonstrated by
Gordo in 2001 whilst playing for the Silver Bullets when he mesmerised
the opposition with his pace and swerve from inside centre, whilst
providing a running commentary for those in support.
It was later that evening, during the hearty post
match celebrations that Gordo was also to provide a running commentary
of how to conduct oneself with distinction in another arena, and
with another form of opposition, no less daunting than that encountered
earlier on in the day.
The enemy, although not initially wanting to succumb,
did so meekly when the Silver Bullet emerged, reverberating as it
did with fury and a sense of promise.
It is with this spirit and verve that hopefully
the side will be able to play in the inaugural Bondi 10s tournament.
