South Sea Flyers

The Flyers has only recently been formed to compete in this year’s Bondi Ten’s tournament with players made up of mostly Flight Attendants of Fiji’s international airline, Air Pacific. Most members if not all, are regular club members of their respective rugby clubs in and around Fiji.

Though word got around that we were contemplating sending a team over to Sydney, recruiting players to field a team had its ups and downs, with most crew finding it quite difficult to balance flight schedules, training and getting time off for the tournament.

What a better way to kick off a social rugby club then to compete overseas, in the much fancied Bondi Tens. Although Fijians are renowned all over the world as good sevens players, we thought that we ought to prove ourselves as well in the Tens scene.

When we run on to the paddock, people will laugh because they might not think much of a couple of airline crew playing rugby. We’ll laugh too, not because we look funny, because we’ll all be playing for the booze. Everyone believes in winning and why not, we believe we’ll have a couple more beers and fart a couple more times.

Like they say, we don't stop playing rugby because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing rugby. So take heed gentlemen, the Flyers are in town. Fasten your seatbelts. Lean Back. Relax. And get ready to fly the southern seas with the Flyers.
